5. How does one read Eben07 comics?
Our archives do make for a bit of a learning curve, that we feel if you get over it, you’ll have a great time with our comic.
Consider each “operation” like an episode from a TV series like the X-Files, Alias, or even the Venture Brothers. Each “operation” should stand alone as a fun to read, beginning, middle & end piece. However, information, characters, plot points, really pretty much anything in any operational episode could appear or impact events in a later series – so there is for sure an overarching plot that is governing these episodes. The operations also don’t flow in a “timeline” order. We are working with J. Herman Shepard to declassify the dates in which non-historical operations occurred to better clarify when and where all these adventures happened.
6. So what are you? A spoof? Spy-Fi? Adventure Humor?
We don’t feel like we are really a spoof. We often consider ourselves to be an adventure humor strip. We strive to find a balance of storytelling, humor, and some just good fun. There is some spy-fi, and we do bend into other genres, but we primarily try to accurately represent the archived debriefings of our agents. Both D.Bethel and I do put a lot of reference humor in the strips after the fact to make the boring old archive files have a little zing and pop. We feel like if this comic isn’t fun for us to do, nobody will read it, and well quite frankly there are mandated quotas we have to fill thanks to Congress.
7. How old are you? Comic and otherwise? Give me some info that’s not totally classified, but not necessarily released to the general public quite yet.
Well the comic is 70+ strips deep now – we’ve been producing content for just over a year. Started in Sept. of 2007.
D. Bethel and I are approximately the same age in that about 28-31 years old range.
D. Bethel is pursuing a master’ degree in English at Sacramento State (also the base of I.C.A. west coast operations) and I (Eben07) graduated from Yale with a degree in International Affairs with a focus in Waste Management.
