Like Devin, I made it out to see Watchmen this weekend (midnight showing to be exact), and I can certainly spill the beans on what everyone wants to know.
In the audience my friends counted two Rorschachs and three Comedians. I never thought those dressed up as Comedians would outweigh those dressed up as Rorshachs, but while I’m disappointed there was no one dressed up as Silk Spectre, I’m also glad there were no Dr. Manhattans in the crowd. That would be downright disturbing – and probably illegal.
For more on my thoughts on Watchmen, you can go here for my full review, though I really recommend Devin de Gruyl’s extremely in-depth examination here for the whole nine yards.
I’ll summarize it my thoughts – and I think Devin agrees – that would sets Watchmen apart from other adaptations of this nature is not a blind allegiance to all things Alan Moore, as many expected, but instead, quite the opposite. While “V for Vendetta” and “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” were changed into something unrecognizable, Snyder and company have changed “Watchmen” to make the final product more recognizable in Alan Moore’s voice and perspective. The result might not be the one hundred percent “Watchmen” fans desired scene-by-scene, but it is one hundred percent “Watchmen” in spirit and intention.
