Comic Rundown: Spider-Pool
Posted by on Nov 10th, 2009

Batgirl #4 continues to get high marks with Stephanie Brown taking the mantle of Batgirl. Now its time for her first night on the job, only to be tasked with juggling a challenging patrol, dodging the police pursuit and attending a frat party all at the same time. Batman never had it so rough . . . at least, not with a kegger or two!

The inaugural opening of the new Arkham Asylum  may be its last when chaos breaks out in all-out riot. Now the new Bats will have to team up with his two ex’s – Oracle and Huntress – along with his predecessor’s ex Catwoman – to turn the tide. It’s going to be a long night!

Grant Morrison also ties up “The Revenge of the Red Hood” in Batman and Robin #6. The Red Hood finally reveals his identity – is it Jason Todd, like we thought? Or is it someone very different. Meanwhile, the new Robin finds himself at the mercy of the new Red Hood’s assistant – the deformed Scarlet.

Booster Gold has teamed up with his deceased pal Blue Beetle through the wonders of time travel – but now he has to face Ted Kord as a Black Lantern. Given how effective these Lanterns have been at ripping out the hearts of those they once loved, it’s not looking good for Booster. Maybe the new Blue Beetle Jamie Reyes can help – if he’s not preoccupied with Black Lanterns himself.

See more of Blackest Night play out in Green Lantern Corps #42. Oa is besieged by its own dead, and just as the Lanterns start to take the fight to their former loved one, and new threat from a new color scheme threatens their entire defense. Green Lantern Corps has been a long time coming, but Blackest Night has finally put the title where it belongs – standing shoulder to shoulder with the solo Green Lantern book.

And you might also want to check out the Batman/Doc Savage special written by Brian Azzarello. The two have created pulpier version of the DC Universe, as the Man of Bronze Doc Savage comes to Gotham to check out – and maybe take out – the city’s violent new vigilante. But this .45-wielding Batman won’t tolerate interference, leading to an two-fisted brawl between the legends. All of this leads into a six issue mini by Azzarello and artist Phil Noto bringing DC’s pulp past back to light.

That’s it for this week, but with more Deadpool and Black Lanterns then you can shack a stick at, it should be enough to keep you preoccupied.
