Comic Rundown: World War Hulks? Seriously?
Posted by on Nov 24th, 2009

Blackest Night #5 hits stands this week as Nekron, Lord of the Dead finally makes his move. All over the DCU, the dead are returning to life (or something close) to kill their loved ones and make more of the dead. After enough death, the Black Lantern power battery has reached its maximum, and now Nekron’s ultimate goal is within his stench-ridden grasp.

Blackest Night continues in Green Lantern #48, as Larfleeze’s Orange Lantern Corps face off against the Black Lanterns. The only problem? Larfleeze’s Orange Lanterns are constructs based on those he has killed – and all of those he has killed have become Black Lanterns! Also, Blue Lantern Saint Walker must contend with Sinestro, his ideological opposite, if he wants to survive Blackest Night.

The new Justice League of America formed just one issue ago, and now they’re thrust into Blackest Night? Ouch. A Black Lantern Dr. Light is turning off the light across the world, and he’s got it in for the latest incarnation of the heroes who mind-wiped him. It’s not a good day to be on the Justice League.

James Robinson’s vision for the Justice League continues in “Justice League: Cry for Justice” #7 as Prometheus is finally brought to justice. But even then, the mastermind cannot be stopped, and one of the members is on the receiving end of Prometheus’ blade. With bad times ahead of the team Green Lantern built, it’ll be a wonder if any of these guys make it to the monthly JL book.

In Justice Society of America #33, a traitor is revealed, but implications don’t stop there, as the team is suddenly split into two, with some heroes following the trio of Jay Garrick, Alan Scott and Ted Grant, and others falling under the leadership of the anti-hero Magog. The team is split down the middle, setting the stage of Justice Society All-Stars in the coming months.

That’s it for this week – but with plenty of Blackest Night, there’s plenty of keep your pull-box full this week!
