Comic Rundown: Al Ghul Ala Carte
Posted by on Mar 8th, 2010

A crossover with Red Robin begins in “Batgirl #8″, as Stephanie Brown – the newest Batgirl – is brought face-to-face with her ex, former Robin Tim Drake, who is searching for his mentor Bruce Wayne as Red Robin. But Tim’s quest has brought him up against the likes of Ra’s Al Ghul, and now the Demon’s Head is waging a war against Batman’s friends and allies. First on his list is Dr. Leslie Thompkins – unless Tim and Stephanie can put aside their past to save her.

The Al Ghul action continues in Batman and Robin #10, as Talia Al Ghul tries to convince her son – Damian Wayne – to turn again his mentor and partner, Dick Grayson – the newest Batman. We’ve seen spats between Batman and Robin before, but never this intense, especially when we’re not really sure who would come up on top in a fight between Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne. This makes the results so much more fun to watch.

And I’m sorry, Devin, but this week there will be Black Lanterns. Don’t pout though – as this month sees the conclusion (in space at least) to Blackest Night in the pages of Green Lantern Corps #46, as the besieged Green Lanterns make a final stand against Nekron’s forces. While the crossover still continues in the “Blackest Night” mini-series as well as the regular Green Lantern, it should be interesting to see the first hints of how this whole thing comes to a close.

And in “Justice League: The Rise and Fall Special”, James Robinson continues to beat the dead horse known as “Cry for Justice.” What dark secret lies in Green Arrow’s past? What does it mean for the one-armed Arsenal? And what actions will split the League (sigh . . . again???) Honestly, I just want Robinson to start writing the regular Justice League and get a feel for the characters before amping up a dosage of drama. Still, I am interesting to see the impact this one-shot has on Green Arrow’s status in the DCU.

And to bring this whole thing full circle, the Red Robin/Batgirl crossover continues in “Red Robin #10.” Ra’s Al Ghul has marked all of the Bat’s friends and families for death, and unfortunately, Tim and Stephanie still have some trust issues to work out, especially after Stephanie turned on Tim on the posthumous orders of Batman during “Battle for the Cowl.” But Tim isn’t making it any easier – especially when he starts working with one of Ra’s top assassins. This is going to get real interesting real quick . . .
