Retro-Active: Halloween Shorts, 2010 Style
Posted by on Oct 31st, 2010

It’s that time of year again, when all the demons are restless, horrible monsters stalk the earth in anger, and the zombies hunger for fresh meat… but enough about Yankee fans upset over missing the World Series, I’m here to talk about Halloween.

Always one of my favorite holidays, Halloween is about nothing more than having fun with all that is scary, macabre, eerie, or just plain unusual. And yeah, while it does have its roots in Pagan ritual, no one says anything about how the early Christians adapted their celebrations of Christ’s birth to coincide with the observation of Winter Solstice, to make it easier to convert the “heathen” to the new religion… but I digress, as usual.

This is a time of year when old (and some new) monster movies rule the TV, when skulls and bats become festive décor, and when tales of haunted mansions and witches’ covens are standard fare for even the most stoic of next-door neighbors.

And, of course, in our era we have video games based on classic Halloween tropes.

So on this All Hallow’s Eve, and for the second year running, I invite you to come with me and check out a small sampling from the retrogaming crypt…
